AEW President Tony Khan made an uncharacteristic on-screen appearance at the conclusion of the September 3 episode of AEW Dynamite, reacting with visible distress and anger to a brutal assault on Kenny Omega. Following an eight-man tag team main event, Khan was seen at ringside, shaken and in tears, as medical personnel attended to Omega.
The situation escalated from an already chaotic main event that pitted Omega and his reunited partner, “Hangman” Adam Page, alongside JetSpeed against The Young Bucks and The Don Callis Family’s Josh Alexander and TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher. The match itself was a consequence of Omega’s surprise return on the August 27 broadcast to save Page from an attack by the same faction.
The assault began after Fletcher hit Page with a Brainbuster on a steel chair. With the numbers advantage, the group then turned their attention to Omega, putting him through a table at ringside.
As the show went off the air, AEW’s medical team was tending to Omega. It was then that Khan appeared, initially trying to console the former champion. Footage released after the broadcast showed Khan covering his mouth in shock while the crowd chanted for Omega. His demeanor quickly shifted from distraught to furious, as he was seen storming away from the scene.
Omega was eventually loaded onto a stretcher and wheeled out of the arena. When a concerned Adam Page asked how he was, Omega responded, “My left is okay… my left’s okay… my right… no, no, no… I don’t know,” before being taken to a waiting ambulance. The direct involvement of Khan in the aftermath signals a new development in the ongoing conflict between The Elite and The Don Callis Family.
