Backstage Update On Kenny Omega’s Status For AEW All Out

Kenny Omega is not expected to be part of the upcoming AEW All Out: Toronto pay-per-view. According to AEW sources, the recent storyline injury angle was executed to accommodate planned time off for Omega that has been on the books for months. Barring any last-minute changes, he will not appear at the September 20 event.

Omega has an upcoming trip to Japan scheduled. While he has acknowledged working through pain, that is a long-standing issue and not a new development prompting this absence. The stretcher angle involving Kyle Fletcher on the September 3 episode of AEW Dynamite was specifically designed to write Omega off television for his planned time off and to spotlight Fletcher in the process.

The angle used to facilitate this absence capped off a chaotic ending to the September 3 AEW Dynamite from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

The show’s main event was an All-Star 8-Man Tag Team match that saw AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page, Kenny Omega, and JetSpeed face off against TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander, and The Young Bucks. The match ended when Fletcher pinned Kevin Knight after an assisted spike Tombstone piledriver and a subsequent Brainbuster.

Following the bell, the Don Callis Family continued their assault. When Kyle Fletcher attempted to attack “Hangman” Page with a steel chair, Omega shielded the AEW World Champion with his own body.

This made Omega the new focus of the attack. Fletcher struck him in the ribs with the chair before delivering a brainbuster from the ring apron through a table on the floor. The Dynamite broadcast went off the air with medical staff tending to a downed Omega, who was eventually loaded onto a stretcher.

Exclusive footage released by AEW after the show depicted a concerned “Hangman” Page, Mark Briscoe, and Mike Bailey looking on as Omega was secured to a backboard. When Page asked how he was feeling, Omega responded, “My left is okay… my left’s okay… my right… no, no, no… I don’t know.” The footage followed Omega being wheeled into an ambulance.
