TNA has officially announced a World Championship match for its marquee event, but the champion’s participation is now in question following his public response. WWE’s Trick Williams is slated to defend the TNA World Championship against Mike Santana at Bound For Glory.
The confirmation was made by TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella on the September 4 episode of iMPACT!. The title match is scheduled for October 12 in Lowell, Massachusetts.
Williams reacted to the news via a video posted on social media. From his home, the champion stated, “I don’t owe TNA, excuse me, Trick-NA a d—n thing…I’ll think about it.” Williams also confirmed he would not be appearing on TNA programming in the near future.
The booking follows weeks of escalation from Santana. After two controversial losses to Williams, Santana appeared on the August 19 episode of NXT, directly costing Williams a number one contender’s match.
The crossover underscores the ongoing partnership between WWE and TNA. Fellow WWE talent Indi Hartwell has also earned a TNA Knockouts World Championship match at the same event.
