The Undertaker Debunk Long-Standing WrestleMania Streak Theory

The Undertaker and Kurt Angle have directly refuted a popular fan theory surrounding their 2006 feud. On a recent episode of the Six Feet Under show, both men confirmed that a plan for Angle to end The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak never existed.

The speculation centered on their World Heavyweight Championship match at No Way Out. Many fans believed the match was moved from an original spot at WrestleMania 22, where an Angle victory would have ended The Streak at 13-0.

The Undertaker dismissed the core premise of the theory. “No, I don’t want anybody to break that,” he stated. “We wanted to wrestle at ‘Mania, but I didn’t want anybody to break the streak.”

Kurt Angle corroborated this account. He affirmed their pitch to Vince McMahon was strictly about having the match at WrestleMania, not about the outcome or The Streak. “We wanted to wrestle each other… I don’t think the streak should have been broken,” Angle said.

Angle then recalled McMahon’s definitive response to their proposal. “…Vince said, ‘No, you’re going to wrestle the month before.’”

McMahon’s decision resulted in Angle defending his championship against The Undertaker at No Way Out. This booking led to different paths for both competitors at WrestleMania 22. The Undertaker defeated Mark Henry in a Casket Match, while Angle lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat Match also involving Randy Orton.

McMahon’s protection of The Streak in 2006 stands in contrast to The Undertaker’s later perspective on its conclusion. The Undertaker has previously questioned the choice for Brock Lesnar to end The Streak at WrestleMania 30, a decision he said McMahon made on the day of the event. He has argued a rising star like Roman Reigns or Bray Wyatt would have benefited more from the moment.

The management of The Streak was an evolving process. The Undertaker and internal WWE sources have noted that its legendary status was not a preconceived plan, only becoming a conscious storyline element several years into its development.
