Roman Reigns has broken his public silence following the attack that wrote him off WWE television. He made no mention of the incident or his on-screen injury. Instead, he focused entirely on his next major project outside the ring.
In a social media post, Reigns confirmed he will play the character Akuma in the new Street Fighter movie. The character first appeared in the video game Super Street Fighter II Turbo in 1994.
This announcement effectively confirms why he was removed from WWE programming. The storyline attack provides cover for his filming schedule, which runs from September 2nd to the 26th.
The violent angle took place at Clash in Paris on August 31. After Reigns defeated Bronson Reed, he was ambushed by both Reed and Bron Breakker. The assault saw Breakker spear Reigns through the announce table and again on the entrance ramp.
Medical personnel placed Reigns on a stretcher, but the attack continued. Reed delivered multiple Tsunami splashes onto Reigns as he was being strapped down. Jey Uso attempted to intervene but was also neutralized by Breakker with a spear.
WWE later issued a kayfabe medical update. The company announced Reigns had been taken to a local hospital for an MRI and X-rays to assess the damage from the assault.
Reigns is expected to be off television for approximately one month. He is currently advertised to return in time for the Survivor Series event in November, where a revenge storyline against Breakker and Reed likely awaits.
