The Undisputed WWE Championship match for WrestlePalooza is now uncertain just weeks before the event. The original plan was for Cody Rhodes to defend the title against Drew McIntyre. However, the match could now become McIntyre versus Randy Orton. This potential change stems from the ongoing feud between McIntyre and Orton on SmackDown, as Rhodes is currently away to film “Street Fighter.”
While the championship match is in flux, WWE has solidified other key bouts for the September 20 show in Indianapolis. The reunion of The Usos is now official for the ring. Jimmy and Jey Uso will team up against The Vision’s Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. This match comes as a direct response to Breakker and Reed attacking Roman Reigns at Clash in Paris.
The card will also reportedly feature a singles match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Lesnar ignited this feud with his surprise return at SummerSlam, where he attacked Cena after a two-year absence from the company.
A new Women’s World Champion will also be crowned at the event. Iyo Sky is scheduled to face Stephanie Vaquer to decide the new titleholder. The championship was recently vacated by Naomi after she announced her pregnancy. The match was made official on the September 1 episode of Raw.
Naomi announced her pregnancy on the August 18 edition of Raw, forcing her to relinquish the title. During her in-ring address, she vowed to return and reclaim the championship in “nine months and some change.”
WrestlePalooza is a significant show for WWE. It marks the company’s first premium live event to air on ESPN’s new streaming platform.
