On his Drive Thru podcast, Jim Cornette called the recent promo segment involving CM Punk, AJ Lee, and Becky Lynch the best he has seen on television in months. He stated the angle is a proven money-maker in the making.

Cornette believes the segment is a “big time f—ing deal.” He argued its effectiveness comes from a simple premise. The audience perceives the conflict as real and wants to see the women fight. This provides the perfect vehicle for a mixed tag team match to draw money instead of just filling a spot on the card. The storyline is building toward a rumored showdown at WrestlePalooza on September 20.

He explained the core of the story is simple: “a guy and his wife mad at a guy and his wife. That’s all you need.”

Cornette specifically analyzed the moment Becky Lynch provoked CM Punk. He contrasted Punk’s response with typical babyface reactions he considers phony. Cornette felt Punk’s internal struggle was visible.

“You could see from Punk’s face that he was saying, I’m going to hit this f—ing b—h. Oh, God damn it,” Cornette said. “There are witnesses. He wanted to. He would have, if they’d have been alone.”

He argued that Punk showing this genuine desire to retaliate “saved him from being a goddamn p—y.” Cornette also highlighted Punk’s parting words as he left the ring. “I’m going to make Seth regret cashing in on me, and you’re going to regret putting your hands on me.”

Cornette concluded that the segment is pure “money.” He believes the angle, which stems from AJ Lee’s return after a decade away from WWE, is strong enough to main event WrestleMania.
