John Cena used CM Punk’s signature finisher, the Go to Sleep, during a match against Sami Zayn on SmackDown, and AEW’s Danhausen quickly took notice.
The moment occurred during what was billed as Cena’s final appearance on the show at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. Following Cena’s use of the move, Danhausen posted on X, stating that the WWE star was the latest wrestler to owe him money.
Danhausen wrote, “John owes Danhausen money now too.”
The joke is a callback to his connection with CM Punk, who once gave Danhausen permission to use the GTS as his own finisher. Danhausen had previously joked that Punk himself owed him money after using the move in a match.
Cena’s tribute to past rivals wasn’t limited to the GTS. During the same match, he also used the Spear, a move closely associated with current AEW performer Edge.
