Wrestling veteran Konnan has voiced criticism regarding the size of AEW’s Don Callis Family. Speaking on his Keeping It 100 podcast, Konnan stated that the stable has become too large, which makes it difficult to focus on individual members.
He drew direct comparisons to famously oversized factions from WCW, suggesting the group’s current structure lacks focus and cohesion.
“I just think they have too many guys in the family,” Konnan said. “You got Wardlow, Rocky Romero, Lance Archer, Takeshita, the Australian guy [Kyle Fletcher], Josh Alexander. Hechicero, what’s he even doing there? They almost remind me of the Dungeon of Doom, like let’s just get a whole bunch of guys that mean nothing, have no chemistry, have no real backstory together, and just throw them in there. Or almost like when the NWO had like 80 guys in it. Just too many people in the family to keep track of and you can’t really focus on one or two guys because you have too many in the group.” (h/t WrestlingInc.)
Konnan’s point references the group’s expansive lineup, which currently features Kazuchika Okada, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander, Lance Archer, Wardlow, Rocky Romero, Trent Beretta, and Hechicero. Wardlow was the most recent wrestler to join the faction following a long absence from AEW television.
The Don Callis Family’s prominence was highlighted on a recent episode of AEW Dynamite, where members Kyle Fletcher and Josh Alexander teamed with The Young Bucks to win an 8-man tag team main event against Kenny Omega, Hangman Adam Page, and JetSpeed.
After the match, the victorious team launched an attack on Omega and Page. The assault concluded after Omega was hit with a Brainbuster on a steel chair and Page was sent through a table.
