Wrigley Field Plays AJ Lee’s Theme During Chicago Cubs Game

CM Punk revealed via his Instagram Stories today that his wife AJ Lee’s entrance theme was played at Wrigley Field during a Chicago Cubs game. The hometown nod comes just one day after Lee made her first appearance in a WWE ring in over a decade on the September 5 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

During the broadcast from Chicago, Punk introduced Lee before she confronted and attacked WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch. The physical altercation occurred after Lynch had slapped Punk multiple times in the center of the ring.

Lee’s attack on Lynch is a direct escalation of the ongoing feud between Punk and Lynch’s husband, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. At WWE Clash in Paris, Lynch interfered in the title match between the two, which was a key factor in Rollins retaining his championship over Punk.

Following the SmackDown segment, Triple H officially confirmed Lee has signed a new contract with WWE, posting footage of the signing on social media. Reports now indicate the angle is building towards a mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, pitting Punk and Lee against Rollins and Lynch.

After the show went off the air, Lee was seen holding Lynch’s WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship belt, suggesting a future direction in the title picture.

This return marks the end of a long absence for Lee, who retired from wrestling in 2015 following a spinal injury.
