AJ Lee returned to WWE for the first time in years on this past Friday’s SmackDown, attacking Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch. The confrontation occurred after Lynch slapped CM Punk multiple times in the ring. Punk stated he would never hit a woman, but knew someone who would, which prompted Lee’s entrance to a major ovation from the crowd.
Coinciding with her appearance, the USA Network’s official X account noted that the day marked a significant milestone in her career.

Lee’s attack on Lynch stems from recent events between Lynch’s husband, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk. At Clash in Paris earlier this month, Lynch interfered in the World Heavyweight Championship match, hitting Punk with a low blow. This action directly helped Rollins retain his title in a Fatal 4-Way that also included LA Knight and Jey Uso.
The return generated a significant reaction backstage. A report from Fightful Select noted that Lee’s appearance created a “curtain sellout,” with WWE talent gathering at the entryway to watch the segment unfold.
The moment also drew reactions from past rivals, including Nikki Bella, who posted on X about the possibility of a rematch.
