Ronda Rousey has closed the door on a potential return to WWE, stating that the company’s travel schedule is no longer compatible with her family life. In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Rousey explained that while WWE left an open invitation for her to come back, her personal priorities have shifted since her departure in 2023.
I just don’t think I could ever be on the road with the company again. I have two girls now, and hopefully we can have some more soon, I’d love that. And there’s just no room in my life to be able to maintain that lifestyle and a family at the same time.
While family is the primary reason for her decision, Rousey has previously detailed deep frustrations with WWE’s creative direction. During an appearance on The Lapsed Fan podcast, she identified the company’s failure to deliver on a long-teased Four Horsewomen storyline as a major source of disappointment.
I got into WWE because I wanted to be able to wrestle with my girls, you know, the Four Horsewomen and be able to wrestle with my friends. And they kind of dangled that carrot for my whole run and never let it happen.
That creative dissatisfaction ultimately shaped her final run with the company. Rousey revealed she forced WWE’s hand to work with Shayna Baszler, a fellow member of the MMA-turned-wrestling stable.
By the end, I was like, I’m f—king leaving unless I can wrestle with Shayna.
This demand led to a tag team championship run with Baszler, which transitioned into their eventual feud. The storyline culminated in a match at SummerSlam in 2023, which stands as Rousey’s final appearance for WWE. She now views her time in wrestling as a “sabbatical” that provided valuable lessons for her current work on a graphic novel and a Netflix screenplay.
