Seth Rollins was spotted breaking character during the final segment of WWE SmackDown. As AJ Lee made her return to the company after more than a decade, cameras cut to Rollins in the crowd, where he appeared to be holding back a smile.
The moment stood in contrast to his current on-screen persona, as Rollins is in the middle of a rivalry with Lee’s husband, CM Punk.
Lee’s return was prompted by an earlier confrontation where Becky Lynch slapped Punk multiple times in the ring. This led to Lee appearing to confront Lynch.
She attacked Becky Lynch with a series of strikes, and the show closed with Lee and Punk celebrating together in the ring.
The significance of Lee’s appearance was felt backstage as well. The return reportedly prompted a “curtain sellout,” with numerous WWE superstars coming to the entryway to watch the segment live. (h/t Fightful Select)
