AJ Lee is back in WWE. The former three-time Divas Champion made her first appearance in over ten years on last Friday’s edition of SmackDown, where she confronted the current Women’s Intercontinental Champion, Becky Lynch.
Lee’s return is the direct result of a storyline where Lynch has been taunting Lee’s husband, CM Punk. This on-screen conflict set the stage for her involvement.
The next chapter is expected to unfold on tonight’s episode of WWE Raw in Milwaukee, where Lee is scheduled to appear. An announcement is anticipated for a mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza on Saturday, September 20. The bout would see Lee team with CM Punk against Lynch and her expected partner, Seth Rollins.
Following her return, Lee posted a message to her fans online. “You’ve had my back for a decade. This run is for you, my wonderful weirdos.”
The match at Wrestlepalooza would mark Lee’s first time competing in a ring since her retirement from wrestling back in 2015.
With Lynch holding the Women’s Intercontinental Championship, the feud also creates a potential path for a future title match between her and Lee.
