It’s a done deal: AJ Lee will officially come out of retirement for her first WWE match in over a decade at Wrestlepalooza. She will team up with her husband, CM Punk, to take on the formidable duo of World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team match.
The high-stakes bout was booked following a chaotic segment on the September 8 edition of Monday Night Raw. The confrontation began with Lee and Lynch in a heated argument, which soon drew in Rollins. Tensions boiled over when CM Punk made a run-in without his entrance music, attempting to hit Rollins with a GTS. The ensuing chaos provoked The Visionary into accepting Lee’s challenge for the match.
While the segment on Raw sealed the deal, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce gave it the final stamp of approval. Pearce retweeted the company’s official match graphic, adding a simple but definitive caption: “It is official.”
Lee’s return appears to be more than just a one-night affair. In a move suggesting a longer run, WWE has already added her to the active superstar roster on its official website. Since re-emerging on SmackDown, Lee has become a central figure on weekly television and is already set for next week’s Raw.
