WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray is impressed with Becky Lynch’s performance during the return of AJ Lee. On his Busted Open Radio show, Ray praised Lynch for how she sold the confrontation not with physicality, but with her facial expressions and eyes, conveying a sense of genuine vulnerability.
He contrasted her reaction with what he sees as a prevalent issue among modern performers. “I’ve been b—ching and m—aning about women in this business. Everybody wants to be the baddest b—ch on the block,” Ray stated. “They all want to be so tough. They all want to seem like nothing bothers them… Nobody’s selling nobody these days. Becky sold for AJ… with her eyes and her face, and I absolutely loved it.”
The segment in question took place on the September 5 edition of SmackDown, when CM Punk brought his wife, AJ Lee, back to a WWE ring for the first time in nearly a decade. The return saw Lee attack Lynch and leave with her Women’s Intercontinental Championship belt.
The animosity carried over to the September 8 episode of Raw. During an in-ring confrontation, Lynch, now sporting a black eye, demanded her title back from Lee. The segment, which also involved Seth Rollins, escalated when Lee laid down a challenge for a mixed tag team match.
After Rollins accepted on their team’s behalf, Lee returned the championship belt. AJ Lee and CM Punk will face Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, which will mark Lee’s first official WWE match in over ten years.
