AEW Star Refutes Rumors on Why He Turned Down WWE: “Money Didn’t Influence My Decision”

Josh Alexander has set the record straight on his decision to sign with AEW, pushing back against the online narrative that he simply followed the money. In a conversation with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, the former IMPACT World Champion explained that his choice was driven by professional and personal goals.

He directly addressed the speculation about his motivations, making it clear that the AEW locker room was the main draw.

“If you believe what you read online, I just went with the highest bidder. The truth is that the money, schedule, and things like that didn’t play into my decision as much as looking at the pool of talent I wanted to work with. There’s a specific reason I signed where I did. I chose AEW because I want to be here.”

Alexander also dismantled a long-held assumption about the ultimate goal for many wrestlers, stating that performing on WWE’s biggest stage was never a personal aspiration. Instead, he pointed to his history with the AEW roster and his respect for the company’s leadership as key factors.

“I didn’t grow up dreaming of wrestling at WrestleMania. I’ve worked with so many people in AEW that are now in high-profile positions, and I met Tony [Khan] during the Covid days. I vibed with him, and I think he’s a really good human being. He’s someone that actually cares about his talent and treats them like human beings. I have watched AEW religiously since its inception. A lot of it is that my dream matches are in AEW.”
