The seemingly dormant rivalry between Rey and Dominik Mysterio could be on a path to revival, with the WWE Hall of Famer identifying a specific trigger for a future match against his son: a major championship win for the current Intercontinental Champion.
Speaking on The Raw Recap podcast, Rey Mysterio laid out the conditions under which he would step back into the ring with Dominik.
“I’ve kind of let things just be bygones be bygones, you know? Let him do his thing, let me do my thing. But if there comes a time, if he does become Mega Champion and he gets in my face or he just happens to light that spark up once again, of course, there is a huge opportunity for that.”
That scenario could become a reality this Friday, September 12, when Dominik challenges El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship at the Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas. On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer predicted a title change is likely, a result many expected when the two previously met at TripleMania in August.
The father-son duo famously imploded when Dominik executed a heel turn on his father at Clash at the Castle in 2022. This led him to join The Judgment Day and eventually capture the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41. More recently, Dominik’s storyline has seen him align with Liv Morgan after turning on Rhea Ripley.
