WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H is promoting a week of major events for the company, highlighting both an immediate international showcase and a premium live event stacked with marquee matches. The Game took to social media today to draw attention to the upcoming Worlds Collide show, a joint event between WWE and AAA.
The special show is set to take place this Friday night in Las Vegas, airing live on YouTube immediately following SmackDown. In his post, Triple H emphasized the major fight-week atmosphere, stating, “We’re taking over @Vegas once again. The night before #CaneloCrawford, @luchalibreaaa & @WWE present #WorldsCollide. Live on YouTube at 10pm ET/7pm PT.”
While Worlds Collide is the focus for this week, the promotion is also full speed ahead toward Wrestlepalooza on September 20. The card for the Indianapolis event at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse features a massive mixed tag team match pitting the returning AJ Lee and CM Punk against Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. The lineup also includes John Cena taking on Brock Lesnar, The Usos facing Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, and a battle between Stephanie Vaquer and IYO SKY for the vacant Women’s World Championship.
The Company’s Ambitions for Wrestlepalooza
The significant push for Wrestlepalooza is by design, as WWE’s parent company, TKO, has massive expectations for the new event. During the Goldman Sachs Communacopia & Technology Conference on September 10, TKO Chief Operating Officer Mark Shapiro revealed the company’s goal is for WrestlePalooza to become a cornerstone of the WWE calendar.
Shapiro stated that Paul “Triple H” Levesque is “spending day and night creatively making what we think it can be: another WrestleMania or another SummerSlam.” He added that the ambition is to establish the show as a peer to the company’s biggest properties, potentially entering the same “quadrant” as the Royal Rumble. “Hopefully, Wrestlepalooza is a winner and we can bring that back annually. That could be a marketing bonanza for us if we do that right,” Shapiro said.
The company’s grand ambitions for Wrestlepalooza are being backed by a card filled with main-event level attractions, the first clear step in establishing a new tentpole event. Before the road to Indianapolis continues, however, WWE and AAA will first present their Worlds Collide showcase this Friday night live from Las Vegas.
