Rob Gronkowski has revealed the wild story behind his 24/7 Championship win, confirming that Vince McMahon himself performed the high-risk scaffold jump to convince a hesitant Gronk to go through with the stunt. During an appearance on What’s Your Story with Stephanie McMahon, the former NFL star explained that his decision to return to football, made just weeks before WrestleMania 36, made him second-guess the spot.
“In the back of my mind, it kind of mindf—ked me that I was going back to football because I felt like, ‘I can’t be too crazy. I can’t get hurt.’ I was kind of hesitant,” Gronkowski recalled. That hesitation prompted Vince to step in and take the leap himself to demonstrate its safety. The move worked. “He did such a good job. I was like, to myself, ‘I’m a huge p—sy,’” Gronk admitted. “Then I was like, ‘I’m jumping.’ No hesitation from there. I did it and won the 24/7 belt.”
This behind-the-scenes story adds another layer to Gronkowski’s memorable WWE run, which he recently discussed a potential return to.
Gronkowski’s Conditions for a WWE Return
A long-time D-Generation X fan, Gronkowski told Stephanie McMahon, “I’ll come back to WWE if I can do ‘Suck It’ in the middle of the ring.” After Stephanie agreed to the deal, Gronk declared, “I’m coming back.”
