WWE Legend Says The Rock vs. Roman Reigns Should Still Happen

WWE Hall of Famer JBL explained why the match between The Rock and Roman Reigns still needs to happen, citing record-breaking opportunities and a closing window.

WWE Legend Says The Rock vs. Roman Reigns Should Still Happen

The planned WrestleMania XL match between The Rock and Roman Reigns may have fallen through, but WWE Hall of Famer JBL believes the company still needs to make the blockbuster encounter happen. Speaking on a recent episode of the “Something To Wrestle” podcast, JBL laid out the case for why the match remains a top priority.

He argued that the primary motivation for all parties involved is the chance to make history. “They [WWE] want to break a record and Rock’s all about breaking records. So is Roman [Reigns], by the way,” JBL stated. “That’s important to these guys… You want to say, ‘Hey, I did this. I set the attendance record there. I set the WrestleMania record.’ That’s important to people, so I hope they do.”

JBL also pointed to the unavoidable factor of The Rock’s age, adding a sense of urgency to the potential dream match. “It’s not like it’s a finite window there, but The Rock is not young, so he needs to do it. He may have another five or ten years of doing stuff… he is older, though. I think he needs to get it done,” he explained.

While a record-setting match with The Rock remains a major possibility, Reigns’ current role since losing his title to Cody Rhodes has drawn some criticism.

Roman Reigns’ Current Booking

Since his return to WWE programming, Reigns has been working a part-time schedule that some find underwhelming. On the “K100” show, wrestling veteran Disco Inferno criticized the creative direction, comparing it to a formula used for Brock Lesnar.

“So, Roman’s got this thing where he’s just popping in at the end of the show, doing a run-in, and they get the heat on,” he said. “I’m not impressed with Roman [Reigns]’ booking. I think they could do more with the guy, obviously.”
