Game developer 2K has officially confirmed that never-before-seen footage of the late Bray Wyatt is included in the new WWE 2K25 video game. In a detailed interview with ComicBook, 2K’s Associate Lead Narrative Designer, Andrea Listenberger, revealed the long and complicated history behind the footage’s inclusion in the game’s “Wyatt Sicks” quest line.

The footage, which includes fully produced and voiced cutscenes, was originally recorded for planned storylines in WWE 2K22. Those plans were scrapped when Wyatt was released from WWE, shelving the content indefinitely. Listenberger explained that after his return to the company, the team attempted to repurpose the cutscenes for WWE 2K24. The plan was to record new voiceovers from Wyatt to align the old material with his current character.

“And then the timing of his unfortunate passing made that impossible,” Listenberger stated. “It didn’t feel right, what we were going to do to incorporate it in the way that we are planning to do so.”

The debut of the Wyatt Sicks faction on WWE programming finally provided what the team felt was the perfect context to release the material as a tribute. The new quest, located in the game’s “The Island” mode, was heavily inspired by Wyatt’s creative work. Listenberger cited the Firefly Fun House match and a specific line from an Uncle Howdy promo—“Let his memory become a mausoleum?”—as key influences.

The goal was never to simply copy the on-screen WWE storyline. “They’ve done such a beautiful job on WWE TV that I think it was important for us to not just duplicate that, but to add something to it without changing it,” Listenberger said. “What was something that we could do in our video game that only we had access to do? And that was kind of the generation for this idea.”

Listenberger acknowledged that rumors about this lost footage have circulated among fans for years. Now, by completing the quest, players can finally see it for themselves, in addition to unlocking new customization options and cryptic messages from Uncle Howdy.
