The buzz for next week’s NXT Homecoming special is undeniable, as the brand prepares for a landmark one-night-only return to its old stomping grounds at Full Sail University. With a card already blending NXT’s past and present, another major title match was officially added to the lineup during Friday’s SmackDown.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will now defend their titles against the NXT tandem of Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley. The challengers earned their shot this past Tuesday on NXT by winning a chaotic three-way number one contender’s match.
The title picture became more complicated on SmackDown, however. Chelsea Green, flanked by The Secret Hervice, interrupted and insisted they were the rightful contenders after their previously scheduled shot was canceled last month. SmackDown’s authority figure Nick Aldis ruled that Green’s team will get a future championship match against whoever wins at Homecoming, adding another layer of intrigue to the bout.
This championship match joins an already loaded card for the special event, which marks NXT’s first broadcast from Full Sail in five years. The show will also feature a massive six-woman tag pitting Rhea Ripley, Tiffany Stratton, and Stephanie Vaquer against Fatal Influence. In another huge bout, Ethan Page will defend the NXT North American Championship against the returning Tyler Breeze, and former partners Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes will team up to face the legendary duo of #DIY.
