The status of a wrestler’s contract often sparks speculation among fans, and Dragon Lee has recently become the focus of that discussion. Amid reports that his deal with WWE was set to expire within months, a new update has brought much-needed clarity to the situation.
According to Backup Hangman on Twitter, the chatter about an imminent exit is inaccurate. The report challenges the initial timeline and confirms that Lee’s contract is secure for the foreseeable future.
“In speaking to a source with intimate knowledge of the situation, it was clarified to me that Dragon Lee still had close to a year remaining on his WWE contract,” the report states.
The confusion appears to come from the structure of Lee’s deal. The initial rumor of a three-month window was reportedly tied to his original agreement, but that changed after his promotion from NXT. As the report explains, signing a main roster contract effectively reset his timeline.
“The original 3 months until expiration time frame was one relayed to me on the WWE side, and the Lee camp contested that this would only be the case had he not signed a main roster deal upon call up,” it continues. “It has been shared with and explained to me that Lee signed a 3-year main roster contract two years ago, and the time reset once that happened. It was also noted that wrestlers are aware that as independent contractors, anyone can be released at any time, but the 3-month timing doesn’t line up, given when he signed his main roster deal.”
The report concludes that the relationship between both parties remains strong, supported by Lee’s recent high-profile appearances. “All indications are that both sides are very happy right now with Dragon Lee’s spot in WWE, especially given his recent participation in AAA, which has led to increased television time.”
That involvement was highlighted last Friday at the special WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event in Las Vegas, where Lee challenged for the AAA Latin American Title in a Fatal Four Way match. Although El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. ultimately retained, Lee’s inclusion was a clear sign of confidence from the company. Since signing under the Triple H regime at the start of 2023, Lee captured the NXT North American Championship from Dominik Mysterio, held it for a month before dropping it to Oba Femi, and later transitioned to the main roster for a storyline with The Judgment Day.
