The closing moments of Clash in Paris appeared to usher in a new era for The Vision. Becky Lynch’s interference to help her husband, Seth Rollins, retain the World Heavyweight Championship looked like a calculated power move. According to the group’s “Wise Man,” though, the decision was far from planned.
Appearing on ESPN’s First Take, Paul Heyman admitted that Lynch’s involvement was a contingency after Roman Reigns took him out earlier in the night. “It came together because of me. Would you like to know why? Because Roman Reigns choked my a– out. That’s why,” Heyman told Stephen A. Smith. “We had to go to plan B, which was plan Becky. You can’t leave the champ out there all by himself.” (h/t Wrestling News)
Rollins, who joined Heyman on the broadcast, acknowledged that while the interference was improvised, the groundwork for an on-screen partnership had been laid well in advance. “The conversations have been in place for many months leading to the moment,” Rollins said. The alliance now heads into WrestlePalooza, where Rollins and Lynch are scheduled for a mixed tag team match against CM Punk and AJ Lee this Saturday.
Meanwhile, the fallout from Reigns’ attack continues to loom over The Vision. Heyman has been off WWE television for the past two weeks and showed visible burst blood vessels in his eye during the ESPN appearance. Asked about his status for WrestlePalooza, he declined to give a definitive answer, calling it a “h–l of a cliffhanger.” His absence has already been felt, with Bron Breakker noting on Raw that the group has lacked leadership without him.
Rollins also used the platform to highlight his role in some of WWE’s biggest returns, from Punk and Lee to Cody Rhodes. “I am a moment making machine,” he declared. “I am the greatest superstar, not just of my generation, but every generation in the history of this company… I will be on the Mount Rushmore of this industry. No question about it.”
