Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer will battle tonight at Wrestlepalooza for the vacant WWE Women’s World Championship, and both competitors have spoken about the significance of the match.
The title was relinquished just weeks ago when Naomi announced her pregnancy, leaving the championship up for grabs on a card already packed with high-profile bouts.
In an interview with Love Wrestling, Sky addressed speculation about whether her Damage CTRL partner Asuka would be present at ringside. “I told Asuka I can do it by myself, and she says, ‘Fine,’ which means… I think… I know her personality, I trust her. I trust Asuka. She might not come tomorrow. I understand and she understands me. She will respect me. I think so. I hope so.” (h/t Wrestletalk)
Vaquer, who is making her Wrestlepalooza debut, spoke with equal candor about the moment. “I’m a little nervous in a good way, and I’m excited. This is my dream. This is the most important title in the most important company. It’s my family, WWE,” she said. “IYO SKY is amazing. She’s one of the best. So I’m excited, I’m happy, and I’ll try to enjoy this moment.”
The championship match adds to an already reshuffled card for the inaugural event.
