CM Punk is already poking fun at the idea of his own WWE demise.
Appearing on the WWE Wrestlepalooza kickoff show, the Straight-Edge Superstar sarcastically addressed fans who expect his current run to end in flames, much like his previous employment. When asked about his upcoming two-year anniversary back with the company, Punk delivered a classic tongue-in-cheek promo.
“I’m gonna crash out at any time guys, don’t worry, keep watching. Any minute now.”
The self-deprecating humor served as the prelude to a massive night, where Punk teamed with his wife, AJ Lee, competing in her first match since 2015. Their team defeated Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, with Lee forcing Lynch to submit to the Black Widow to cap off the 29-minute bout.
Of course, Punk’s comments were a clear reference to his chaotic tenure in AEW, which was cut short just after the two-year mark following multiple suspensions and the eventual termination of his contract.
In stark contrast, his return to WWE has been notably free of backstage incidents. The Chicago-Made star has reportedly earned high praise for his professional conduct and willingness to mentor talent in WWE NXT.
