Fresh off his dominant return, WWE is already charting Brock Lesnar’s long-term future. A report from Bodyslam notes that Bron Breakker has been discussed internally as a potential marquee opponent for The Beast Incarnate, with WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas even mentioned as a possible stage for the clash.
This forward planning comes after Lesnar’s first match in over two years, where he defeated John Cena in under ten minutes at Wrestlepalooza. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the lopsided nature of that bout was Cena’s own choice. Meltzer explained that the 17-time world champion is using his farewell tour to elevate others, personally requesting the decisive loss to re-establish Lesnar as a top-tier threat.
“John is very altruistic, and he knows that, on his way out, he wants to create people. He wants to create big stars. So he felt that this was… his decision. And that was his decision,” Meltzer said.
While Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque holds final booking authority, Meltzer stressed that Cena’s input carried the most weight. “At the end of the day, the decision is Paul Levesque’s, but if John says that, it’s not like Paul Levesque is going to say: ‘No, no, no, you have to win.’ Especially when Brock is the one who stays and he is the one who is leaving.”
Meltzer also suggested that such a dominant win over a legend demands a major follow-up, with Cody Rhodes positioned as a potential next opponent.
As Lesnar’s path takes shape, Cena’s farewell tour is nearing its end. His next confirmed appearance is Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, on October 11. Cena has been pushing for one final match with longtime rival AJ Styles—a challenge The Phenomenal One accepted Tuesday on Twitter—even as Styles prepares to team with Dragon Lee against Los Americanos on next week’s Raw.
