WWE Superstar IYO SKY is set to compete outside the company, facing Mayu Iwatani in a singles match on October 26. The bout will take place at Marigold Wrestling’s Grand Destiny 2025 event at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan.
The match was confirmed through a video announcement from SKY on September 25, where she issued a direct challenge to her former rival. “Marigold fans, long time, no see. It’s WWE Superstar IYO SKY. So why am I here? There’s one reason. Mayu Iwatani! Over the past few years, when you and I didn’t meet, we’ve each walked such wonderful paths. Let’s speak to our hearts’ content and tell our story inside of the ring. October 26 at Marigold’s Ryogoku Kokugikan show, Mayu Iwatani vs. IYO SKY is official! Hey Mayu, let’s shock the world with an amazing match we’ll have. See you soon!”
This will mark SKY’s second match for Marigold. The former WWE Women’s World Champion debuted for the promotion in July 2024 against Utami Hayashishita, her first non-WWE bout since signing with the company in 2018.
SKY and Iwatani share a deep history from their years in STARDOM, where they wrestled seven singles matches between 2013 and 2018. Their most recent encounter, in the 2018 Cinderella Tournament, ended in a draw.
In 2017, Iwatani defeated SKY to capture the World of STARDOM Championship. SKY’s final match in STARDOM before joining WWE saw her team with Iwatani against Hazuki and Kagetsu, closing an important chapter in their rivalry and partnership.
