Former AEW Star Reveals Why He Left For WWE

Penta has revealed that his decision to leave All Elite Wrestling for WWE earlier this year was motivated by the pursuit of major, high-profile moments. Speaking on the In The Kliq podcast, the former AEW World Tag Team Champion identified his Royal Rumble encounter with Rey Mysterio as the defining experience that validated his career move.

The match took place in February, with Penta and Mysterio entering as the first two participants in the Men’s Royal Rumble. Having made his WWE debut in January and quickly becoming a fixture on Monday Night RAW, Penta described the confrontation as a career highlight.

“It was one of the best experiences of my life, because of everything. Against Rey, we started the match, the city. This kind of stuff is the reason Penta is in WWE,” he said.

That moment has since fueled his future ambitions. Penta declared his goal of creating another milestone at WrestleMania 42, naming Mysterio as his desired opponent for the event in Las Vegas. “I want at WrestleMania 42 to conquer a title or something bigger. Because always in my mind is going up, going up, going up, and I think Las Vegas, Nevada is the best place. Why not against Rey Mysterio?”

If a singles bout with the WWE Hall of Famer does not materialize, Penta has already considered an alternative: Rey’s son, Dominik Mysterio. This would serve as a rematch from their clash at Backlash in May, where Dominik successfully defended the Intercontinental Championship against him.

The transition to WWE has also extended to family, as Penta’s brother and longtime Lucha Brothers partner, Rey Fenix, signed with the company months later, joining the SmackDown roster.
