Matt Cardona has publicly declared his intention to return to WWE, specifically to form a tag team with his wife, Chelsea Green. In a recent interview, the 40-year-old free agent stated that the duo could defeat high-profile WWE couples, naming Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch and CM Punk & AJ Lee as potential opponents. The comments follow his first appearance on WWE programming in over five years.

“Well, I mean, of course, we would go over. Chelsea Green would hit her finish, 1-2-3,” Cardona said. “I would love to team with Chelsea Green in a WWE ring. Never say never. We’ll see what happens. I think it has to happen. It’s gotta happen.”

Cardona resurfaced during the September 23 episode of NXT. He was first spotted in a parking lot segment behind NXT Champion Oba Femi before later appearing in the crowd during the main event. His involvement is tied to the ongoing NXT vs. TNA invasion storyline.

According to Fightful Select, Cardona is not currently under contract with either WWE or TNA. This status positions him as a legitimate free agent within the cross-promotional angle. The NXT broadcast itself featured a Title vs. Title main event between Femi and TNA World Champion Trick Williams.

That contest ended when Mike Santana interfered, causing a disqualification and allowing Williams to retain his title. A massive brawl between the two rosters followed, featuring Frankie Kazarian, Eric Young, and The IInspiration.
