A fan petition on Change.org is urging WWE to re-sign former World Champion Alberto Del Rio. By Saturday afternoon, the campaign had collected 505 verified signatures (via Ringside News).
The petition describes Del Rio, real name José Alberto Rodríguez Chucuan, as “a great athlete, a pillar and representative of Mexican wrestling.” It argues that his experience and skill could energize WWE programming and serve as “a powerful symbol of the quality and impact of Mexican wrestlers.”
This push contrasts sharply with WWE’s past stance. In 2023, a senior executive was quoted as saying there was “no f–king chance” of a Del Rio return, stressing there had “never been any real consideration” of bringing him back since his 2016 exit.
Discussion about his future reignited after WWE acquired Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in April 2025. Confusion at the time led to speculation that Del Rio had signed a new WWE contract. It was later clarified that WWE had likely inherited his AAA deal instead of offering him a fresh agreement for its shows.
At the time of the purchase, Del Rio was AAA Mega Champion but later dropped the title to El Hijo del Vikingo. His year also saw a six-month suspension from competing in Tijuana after an altercation at a March event.
The petition cites chatter that stars such as Roman Reigns, The Undertaker, and Cody Rhodes have supported Del Rio’s potential comeback following his departure from AAA.
Currently, Del Rio is involved with a Mexican reality television project. While reports indicate he is done with AAA, a return to professional wrestling has not been ruled out.
