A special cross-promotional event titled Invasion featuring WWE NXT and TNA Wrestling talent will take place on Tuesday, October 7. The announcement came from NXT General Manager Ava during the No Mercy PLE on Saturday night. The brand warfare special will air on The CW.
Two major inter-promotional contests have already been confirmed. The NXT Tag Team Champions Dark State will face the TNA Tag Team Champions The Hardy Boys in a title-for-title, winner-take-all bout. The show will also feature two Survivor Series-style elimination matches, one for men and one for women.
The event was created after what Ava called an “extremely fractured” relationship between the two promotions. This tension escalated last week when TNA invaded NXT during a title match between Trick Williams and Oba Femi. On Tuesday, the participants for the men’s and women’s elimination bouts will be revealed, following selections made by Ava and TNA’s Santino Marella.
During the No Mercy broadcast, Ava delivered the official statement. “The relationship between NXT and TNA has become extremely fractured. Last week, during Trick and Oba’s title-for-title match, TNA Wrestling invaded NXT, which then led to the chaos that you all saw when we went off air. After this happened, Santino and I talked for hours, trying to come up with a solution, and we finally did. On Tuesday, October 7th on the CW, NXT and TNA will bring to you an event that no one in the wrestling world thought was possible: Invasion. NXT and TNA will compete in two Survivor Series style matches, one for the men and one for the women. This Tuesday, the teams will be announced once Santino and I each make our respective picks.”
She also confirmed the tag team championship bout and added a stipulation tied to recent incidents. “Also, another match that has been officially signed off on is the NXT Tag Team Champions Dark State, versus the TNA Tag Team Champions, the Hardy Boys. Title for title, winner-take-all match. And also, after everything that has happened with Trick and Oba, everyone will be barred from ringside, so there will be no interruptions.
