New Prediction Reveals Who Could Dethrone Brock Lesnar After WWE Wrestlepalooza

A notable theory has been proposed for Brock Lesnar’s next major program, potentially setting up a first-time-ever clash with a returning Gunther. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray detailed a potential angle that would see Gunther return as a face to confront The Beast Incarnate, fulfilling a long-desired dream match for many fans.

Ray suggested a scenario where Lesnar is in the ring claiming no one can challenge him, only to be interrupted by The Ring General. He framed this potential confrontation as the endgame for Lesnar’s recent booking, stating, “that’s why John Cena let Brock destroy him because that’s starting to propel Brock to where we need him to be, so Gunther can be the hero coming back.”

According to Ray, Lesnar’s current purpose in WWE is to generate significant income while using his status to elevate other performers. He affirmed his belief that Gunther will be the next superstar to benefit from a program with Lesnar, who he noted is aware he will not “stick around forever.” This perspective came despite Ray questioning a recent comedic segment involving Lesnar and R-Truth, which he called “comedy bulls–t.”

This speculation about a potential return program comes as Gunther has been absent from WWE programming since August. The Ring General was last seen at SummerSlam on August 2, where he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk in the main event of the show’s first night. His night worsened when Seth Rollins successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Punk immediately following the match, a sequence that effectively removed Gunther from the title picture.

Gunther’s on-screen absence coincided with legitimate health issues, as he was dealing with injuries that included a nose problem requiring surgery. Following the event, WWE announced he would be sidelined indefinitely.

However, a report in the September 19 edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicated his return may be imminent. The update stated directly: “Gunther is expected back very soon.” While no specific date was provided, the report suggests the former champion is nearing a return to WWE programming.
