Penta has emerged as the next challenger for the Intercontinental Championship, confronting Dominik Mysterio in the stands following the champion’s successful title defense against Rusev on the September 29 episode of WWE RAW. The segment established a new angle for Mysterio’s title, which he holds concurrently with the AAA Mega Championship.

During the confrontation, Penta declared that the Intercontinental title would be his and claimed Mysterio’s “King of the Luchadores” moniker for himself. The Judgment Day member retorted by stating he has already defeated Penta five times. The exchange also teased a potential future feud over the AAA Mega Championship.

The challenge occurred after Mysterio retained his title against Rusev earlier in the night. Mysterio secured the victory on his own after being abandoned by his stablemates, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh.

Mysterio’s win was achieved through a series of underhanded tactics. The turning point of the match came when Mysterio used his championship belt to strike Rusev across the spine. After feigning that he had been hit with the title himself, Mysterio took advantage of the referee’s confusion to deliver a low blow and secure the victory with a roll-up pin.

This defense continues a significant reign for “Dirty Dom,” which began when he pinned his own stablemate, Finn Bálor, in a fatal four-way match at WrestleMania 41 on April 20, 2025. His list of successful title defenses includes victories over Penta on the Raw following WrestleMania, Octagón Jr. at Money in the Bank, and two separate wins against AJ Styles at SummerSlam on August 3 and on the September 1 edition of Raw.

The champion’s schedule remains demanding, as it was also announced that Dragon Lee will challenge Mysterio for his AAA Mega Title at the upcoming Heroes Inmortales event.
