Former WWE Matt Riddle Teases Potential Run For Governor Of Florida

Matt Riddle says he’s considering a run for governor of Florida, revealing his political ambitions during an interview on TMZ’s Inside the Ring. He framed himself as a candidate who could bring people together in today’s divided political climate.

“It’s about time for a change. I think I’m very relatable,” Riddle said. “I feel like right now the country is so separated in two. We need to meet in the middle.” He described his views as being in the “gray area” between Republican and Democrat, pointing to Florida’s mix of political perspectives as a reason for his interest.

If he runs, Riddle would follow in the footsteps of other wrestlers-turned-politicians. Jesse “The Body” Ventura was elected governor of Minnesota in the late 1990s, and Glenn “Kane” Jacobs is currently the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

Since leaving WWE in 2023, Riddle has stayed active in the ring. He won the MLW World Championship and has been competing across several independent promotions. Earlier this year, in an appearance on Rewind Recap Relive, he credited Bryan Danielson’s WrestleMania 30 victory as a major inspiration, showing how a smaller athlete with a real combat background could succeed on wrestling’s biggest stage.
