Paul Heyman opened SmackDown on October 3 with a sharp message for Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. Backed by Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, Heyman declared that the Rhodes-Orton alliance is a “prophecy” destined to collapse—fueling the hype for their tag team showdown later that night.
The segment began with Rhodes addressing the crowd before Heyman and The Vision cut him off. With Breakker and Reed at his side, Heyman confronted Rhodes until Orton came out to back up his partner, setting the stage for a heated standoff.
Heyman first directed his words at Orton, claiming the veteran had ignored repeated calls, texts, and emails. He framed Orton’s decision to stand with Rhodes not as a prediction, but as a “spoiler”—arguing that their partnership is bound to implode.
Breaking it down, Heyman laid out two scenarios. If Rhodes lost to The Vision, Orton would question the champion’s credibility. If Orton took the pin, he would blame Rhodes for failing to support him. The conclusion, according to Heyman, was unavoidable: “Either way, no matter how you look at it, this can’t last. And that’s not a prediction from an Oracle, that is a prophecy.”
The match itself was confirmed last week by SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, after Breakker and Reed attacked Rhodes during a confrontation with The Vision—only for Orton to even the odds.
