After losing the NXT Championship to Ricky Saints at NXT: No Mercy last Saturday, Oba Femi is expected to stay on the NXT brand for now. Despite speculation that a main roster call-up was around the corner, that isn’t the current direction for the former champion.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that there are no immediate plans for Femi to move to RAW or SmackDown. Creative personnel have not been told of any such move. Dave Meltzer wrote, “Femi is still in the plans for NXT going forward.”
Even so, the report stressed that WWE’s plans can always shift. Meltzer noted that the company can “swerve” expectations, adding, “There is no such thing as a 100 percent no.” That leaves the possibility open if the main roster team changes course.
Femi’s loss ended a 263-day reign, nearly nine months, as NXT Champion. He won the title in January 2025 and quickly became one of the brand’s dominant figures. His impact goes beyond this run—he still holds the record for longest-reigning NXT North American Champion.
During his title reign, Femi defended against names like Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Wes Lee. He also beat main roster talents Austin Theory and Grayson Waller, and in March at NXT Roadblock he retained against TNA’s Moose in an inter-promotional match.
For now, a main roster debut isn’t in the cards. The question is: what’s next for Oba Femi in NXT? Share your predictions in the comments, and follow Wrestling Noticias for updates.
