CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion Mistico has made it clear: he wants a deal with a major U.S. promotion, and AEW is at the top of his list. The Mexican star is ready to step beyond his home promotion and test himself on the global stage.
Speaking with Bill Pritchard of Wrestlezone, Mistico outlined his ambitions. “I’m looking for an opportunity in any promotion in the world. If I receive an opportunity, I will take it,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s in Mexico, London, Japan. I think that I’ve shown what I’m made of, and now I think it’s time to look for new things.”
Mistico also revealed he’s open to a dual-contract setup, which would let him work for AEW or MLW while keeping his spot in CMLL. “Like other teammates who have a wonderful double contract, I would like to have that kind of contract,” he explained. “Or also to have new rivalries with other superstars. So I’m looking for new opportunities and new challenges in my career.”
That kind of arrangement isn’t new for AEW. The company has allowed talent to wrestle for multiple promotions before—Konosuke Takeshita has worked with AEW, NJPW, and DDT under similar deals.
Mistico is no stranger to AEW fans. He debuted on Rampage last October and returned at All In Texas on July 12, competing in the Casino Gauntlet match. His momentum grew even more after September’s CMLL 92 Aniversario, where he defeated AEW’s MJF in a Mask vs. Title match to capture the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship.
The timing is notable. Bandido, the current ROH World Champion, also crossed over with CMLL, defending his title against Hechicero on October 3. But after the match, Bandido announced on Instagram he had dislocated his shoulder—casting doubt on his scheduled AEW Dynamite appearance and underscoring the risks of talent-sharing deals.
