AEW Expected to Block Sting from Attending WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony

According to the March 20, 2025 edition of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Tony Khan must now decide whether to permit Sting to appear at WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony to induct Lex Luger.

Dave Meltzer reports WWE and Luger have already reached an agreement on Sting’s participation.

From what we understand, Luger asked for Sting and WWE agreed. This placed the ball in Tony Khan’s court.

Previous talent-sharing history complicates Khan’s decision. A similar arrangement in 2019 ended controversially when Triple H referred to AEW as “an insignificant company” during Billy Gunn’s Hall of Fame induction.

Meltzer also detailed the 2012 situation when TNA allowed Ric Flair to appear at WWE’s Hall of Fame while under contract. TNA received Christian Cage for a TNA appearance in exchange, but the arrangement proved unsatisfactory.

Christian clearly showed he didn’t want to be there and it didn’t do TNA any good.

The reporter suggested several possible negotiation strategies for AEW, including requesting WWE to acknowledge the favor or provide a business concession in return.

Meltzer speculated Khan could potentially make the situation public by stating:

We were requested, but due to what happened with Gunn, we’re just asking for something in return.

Establishing an AEW Hall of Fame featuring Sting represents another option Khan might consider according to the report.
