AJ Styles Confirms Retirement Date

AJ Styles has definitively stated his intention to retire from professional wrestling before his 50th birthday. The WWE Grand Slam Champion made these comments during a recent appearance on the “Insight” podcast.

Styles, who turns 48 in June, addressed questions about his remaining time in the ring with surprising clarity. Despite his continued success and enjoyment of the business, he has established a firm timeline for his career conclusion.

When asked about how much longer he plans to wrestle, Styles acknowledged wrestling with this question mentally. “I’ve thought about it a lot, much more than I should have. I should have known what I was doing by now,” he explained.

The veteran performer cited his enjoyment of the locker room environment as a factor making retirement decisions difficult. “I enjoy being around my friends. Don’t get me wrong, I love being at home, but the opportunity to see them and see them doing well, seeing them smile, and seeing them grow,” Styles noted.

He specifically praised the evolution of several WWE talents during his tenure. “Roman for instance, his selling is on a different level. Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, all these guys, they stepped up,” Styles remarked.

Styles also highlighted Gunther’s transformation and championship success, along with Cody Rhodes’ journey. He expressed appreciation for witnessing his colleagues’ dedication to the business.

That’s correct. I keep saying that. I’ve said this and said this, but I will not wrestle at 50, I promise you that.

When questioned if he had a specific opponent in mind for his final match, Styles revealed he doesn’t have one particular wrestler selected. However, he hinted at a creative concept he’s considering.

Nope, no opponent in mind. An idea that I will not share with you that I thought if I could get Undertaker to get in the ring with me, that I wanted to do. But there’s an idea there that I think kind of sums up who AJ Styles is, and we’ll see if it happens. You’ll know it if it does.

The Phenomenal One previously faced The Undertaker in a cinematic Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36, though he appears to have additional creative plans in mind for a potential retirement scenario.
