AJ Styles told fans in Melbourne today that they may have seen him wrestle in Australia for the final time. The two-time WWE Champion addressed the crowd after defeating El Grande Americano at a live event, announcing that his in-ring career in the country has likely concluded.
Following his victory, he took the microphone to thank the Australian audience for their continued support and acknowledged his belief that this was his last match on Australian soil. “I just wanna thank you guys for cheering and being some of the best fans in the world. But here’s the truth – I’m probably not gonna see you again in a singlet like this anymore. So I just wanted you to know, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much,” Styles said. Styles has consistently stated, both on television and at live events, that he intends to retire from competition in 2026. He has suggested he will remain with WWE after stepping away from the ring, possibly transitioning into a trainer role for NXT. His final year as an active performer will offer limited chances for fans worldwide to see him live.
WWE heads to Japan this weekend for live events, where Styles has also indicated he will compete for the last time. While the company frequently returns to Australia, he appears determined to follow his timeline and conclude his career next year.
Styles’ legacy in Australia includes several memorable moments. He defended the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe during the 2018 tour, interfered in the Men’s Elimination Chamber match at the 2024 event in Perth, and most recently faced John Cena at Crown Jewel: Perth in October 2025.
