Amidst a singles match between Sheamus and Rusev, commentator Michael Cole referenced their shared history in the League of Nations faction, and in doing so, also named their former stablemate, Alberto Del Rio.
The reference is noteworthy given Del Rio’s tumultuous past with the company. The former WWE Champion’s departure in 2014 was marked by controversy, and despite a second stint, the relationship has remained strained for years. A prior report from Fightful Select indicated that for a long period, WWE maintained a firm “hard no” policy regarding any potential collaboration with Del Rio.
However, that same report suggested the relationship was no longer considered contentious. The on-air mention gains further significance following WWE’s acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in April, a promotion where Del Rio performs as a top talent. This new business dynamic has opened the door to speculation about what the future might hold.
While it was only a brief commentary reference, there is no indication that Del Rio was physically present at the event.
