Analyst suggests former WWE champion as John Cena's first Farewell Tour opponent
Wrestling insider predicts Rollins match for early 2025, while speculation grows about Cena’s partnership with CM Punk.
Chris Van Vliet has identified Seth Rollins as a potential first opponent for John Cena’s 2025 Farewell Tour. Speaking on his INSIGHT podcast’s AskCVV edition, Van Vliet discussed the five-time world champion as an ideal candidate to kick off Cena’s final run.
While Cena has confirmed appearances at both the 2025 Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber events, his role remains undefined. Van Vliet shared his perspective on the matchup potential:
It feels like a great first opponent for him, and I’m not talking storyline here, or just throw him in the ring with this person, and you know it’s gonna be great. Seth Rollins. I think John Cena is gonna have a match with Seth Rollins at some point in time in 2025. I could see that being his first match.
Tag team gold prospects emerge for Cena
Recent events at Madison Square Garden have sparked discussions about a different direction for Cena’s farewell run. CM Punk’s tribute during his match against Ludwig Kaiser, incorporating Cena’s signature moves, has fueled speculation about a potential partnership between the former rivals.
The two veterans haven’t shared a WWE ring since their February 2013 RAW encounter in Dallas, following their memorable “Summer of Punk” rivalry in 2011.
Industry observers now suggest the duo might pursue tag team championships after WrestleMania 41, adding an unexpected chapter to both performers’ legacies.
