
Andrade El Idolo has denied a report from Dave Meltzer about the circumstances of his exit from AEW. In a post on X, Andrade said he personally thanked AEW President Tony Khan after his contract expired, rejecting Meltzer’s version of events.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer claimed Andrade gave Khan the impression he was close to signing a renewal, though no deal was finalized. According to the report, Khan pushed until the very end to keep him, even as people inside the company believed Andrade was headed to WWE. Meltzer also said Andrade had “lots of problems in AEW” tied to disciplinary issues, and that those close to him suggested he would “always think of Tony Khan as secondary to WWE.”
Andrade fired back directly: “@davemeltzerWON You talk too much s–t without proof, and Sir, I’ll only tell you one thing: when my contract with AEW ended, I personally went man to man to thank MR. TONY KHAN for the opportunity to be in AEW, and that’s all I’ll tell you. If I wanted to talk more, I would show you that you’re wrong about many things. But you keep killing the business! The dispute comes just days after Andrade was featured prominently on AEW programming. At the Dynamite anniversary show on October 1, he attacked Kenny Omega and joined The Don Callis Family. Two days later, he won The Crash Heavyweight Championship in Tijuana by defeating DMT Azul, ending a reign that lasted nearly 900 days.
