Asuka eyes Women’s Intercontinental Title after WWE announcement
Asuka hints at pursuing newly introduced Women's Intercontinental Championship upon WWE return, while tournament continues for Women's United States Title on SmackDown.
Asuka has expressed interest in pursuing the newly introduced Women’s Intercontinental Championship. The absent superstar responded to RAW General Manager Adam Pearce’s historic announcement on social media.
The Empress of Tomorrow has been sidelined with a knee injury since Backlash 2024 in May, where she and Kairi Sane dropped the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. While her return date remains uncertain, the 43-year-old veteran hinted at future plans through X.
The timing of Asuka’s message coincides with WWE’s expansion of championship opportunities in the women’s division.

Women’s Intercontinental Championship debuts on RAW
Adam Pearce unveiled the Women’s Intercontinental Championship during RAW’s pre-show in Arizona. The reveal follows SmackDown’s recent introduction of the Women’s United States Championship, which is currently being decided through a tournament.
The SmackDown tournament has already seen Bayley and Chelsea Green advance to the semi-finals. Tiffany Stratton, Naomi, Elektra Lopez, Piper Niven, Michin, and potentially Jade Cargill will compete in triple-threat matches to determine the remaining semi-finalists.
The inaugural champion will be crowned at Saturday Night Main Event on December 14, 2024.
