Asuka teases championship pursuit after extended WWE absence
The Empress of Tomorrow hints at championship ambitions through social media as she recovers from knee surgery following a 231-day hiatus.

Asuka signaled her championship aspirations on social media, marking 231 days since her last WWE appearance on the May 6 episode of RAW.
The former champion shared a photoshopped image featuring herself with the WWE Women’s, WWE Women’s World, and NXT Women’s championships, titles she previously held when they were known as the RAW and SmackDown Women’s championships.
The Empress of Tomorrow has been absent from WWE programming since undergoing knee surgery after dropping the Women’s Tag Team Championship at Backlash France. Her career accomplishments include the NXT Women’s Championship, SmackDown Women’s Championship, and three reigns as RAW Women’s Champion.
Asuka shows interest in Women’s Intercontinental Championship
The 43-year-old veteran, who has been recovering from a knee injury since Backlash 2024, responded to RAW General Manager Adam Pearce’s announcement on social media, suggesting potential plans upon her return.
The introduction of mid-card championships, including both the Women’s United States and Intercontinental titles, provides new opportunities for returning competitors like Asuka, whether she rejoins Damage CTRL or pursues singles competition.

Update on Asuka’s Return for WWE WrestleMania 41
Recent reports contradict earlier information about Asuka’s WrestleMania 41 status, with sources indicating her return is still months away following knee surgery.

Asuka will likely miss WrestleMania 41 as her recovery from knee surgery continues. Reports from BodySlam.net’s Cassidy Haynes indicate her return is still multiple months away.
This information contradicts earlier reports about her potential involvement in the event. Sean Ross Sapp had previously mentioned she was pitched for creative plans as early as January.
When asked on March 12 about Asuka’s status, Sapp reiterated what he had shared weeks ago. His information appears to be outdated compared to the newer reports.
I can’t speak to her health status or anything like that, but she had been pitched for creative heading into WrestleMania as far back as January,” Sapp stated. “I’ve not heard anything since, but at the time, she’d been pitched for a tag team program.
WWE is reportedly taking a cautious approach with Asuka’s recovery process. The company does not want to rush her back to in-ring action before she’s fully healed.
Asuka has been absent from WWE programming since April 2024. She competed through an injury before finally stepping away after Backlash France.
Her final match was a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship loss. Asuka and Kairi Sane were defeated by Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill at the premium live event.
While there’s no official confirmation that Asuka is absolutely ruled out from appearing at WrestleMania 41, all current information suggests she won’t be part of the show.

Asuka shared a cryptic social media message ahead of Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden. The former Women’s Tag Team Champion posted an image of herself posing on the turnbuckle along with an intriguing caption.
Fight like a warrior, smile like a legend. 😈⚔️
The Empress of Tomorrow has been absent from WWE programming since WWE Backlash: France last year. She and Kairi Sane, known as The Kabuki Warriors, lost the Women’s Tag Team Championship to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair at the premium live event.
Asuka was initially scheduled to participate in the Queen of the Ring Tournament later in the year but was pulled due to a knee injury, which has kept her sidelined until now.
Sane has also been away from WWE television recently. The Damage CTRL member was set to compete in the Women’s Intercontinental Championship Tournament before being attacked backstage by Pure Fusion Collective. Sonya Deville, who formerly led the group, parted ways with WWE last month when the company chose not to renew her contract.
Tonight’s Raw from Madison Square Garden features Cody Rhodes making an appearance and Seth Rollins facing CM Punk in a Steel Cage match to headline the show.
