Becky Lynch on CM Punk Attack: “He Deserved It”

As talk of a potential WWE return for AJ Lee intensifies, Becky Lynch has addressed the attack on CM Punk that ignited the speculation. In a recent Instagram post, Lynch stated that Punk deserved the assault she delivered on Raw, making it clear she is not concerned about any consequences.

The situation escalated on the September 1 episode of Monday Night Raw. CM Punk entered the ring to call out World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins but was confronted by Rollins’ wife, Becky Lynch, instead. As the live audience chanted for “AJ Lee,” Lynch dismissed them, saying, “Classic, always chanting for a dope that doesn’t work here.” She then referenced how crowds would chant Punk’s name during her own matches after he previously left wrestling, which she felt undermined her performances. Lynch followed her remarks by slapping Punk multiple times. Punk did not retaliate physically but warned that both she and Rollins would regret her actions.

This confrontation followed Lynch’s direct interference at Clash in Paris on August 31. During the main event, Lynch, who was seated in the crowd, delivered a low blow to CM Punk. The act allowed Seth Rollins to win the match and retain his World Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Punk was seen holding a fan’s sign that read, “CM Punk, bring back AJ Lee”.

The events have fueled internal discussions about Lee’s return. Following the segment on Raw, an angered CM Punk was seen backstage asking General Manager Adam Pearce for the location of the next SmackDown. Upon learning it is in Chicago, the hometown of both Punk and Lee, he simply replied, “Tremendous.” This exchange, coupled with a cryptic social media post from Punk on September 2 captioned, “Okay… you asked for it,” has strengthened the belief that Lee may be on her way back to the company.

Current reports indicate the storyline is building towards a mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, which would feature CM Punk and AJ Lee facing Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
