The bubbly, Barbie-esque persona Blake Monroe debuted with in NXT is officially a thing of the past. Her character transformation was cemented on the September 9 episode of NXT, replaced by a much darker and more sinister edge.
The change was made official in a video package that showcased Monroe’s new attitude, a persona more aligned with her previous run as Mariah May in AEW. In the promo, she delivered a chilling message directly to her rival, Jordynne Grace.
“You didn’t humble me. You didn’t break me. You awakened me,” Monroe stated. “I’m gonna show you why Blake Monroe can make even the devil blush. See you in hell, JG.” (h/t Wrestletalk)
This full-blown heel turn is the culmination of her increasingly bitter feud with Grace. The shift began when Monroe launched a vicious attack on Grace a week prior, proclaiming herself “the woman from hell.” Their rivalry has seen Monroe defeat Grace at the NXT Heatwave premium live event, but also suffer her first pinfall loss in NXT after a critical distraction from Grace during a match against Kelani Jordan.
