Bobby Lashley shared insights about working with Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23 during a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet. The former WWE Champion discussed the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the 2007 “Battle of the Billionaires” match.

Lashley recalled a significant backstage moment involving Vince McMahon and Trump before the event. “I remember backstage, Vince was saying—because Trump wanted to be a part of it, he wanted to be a part of it, he was like, ‘I want to beat somebody up’ or something like that,” Lashley explained.

According to Lashley, McMahon had specific plans for Trump’s physical involvement. “Vince’s whole thing was like, ‘When he starts punching me, I’m going to put my head down so that he can punch my head. That’s the hardest part,’ so it’s going to hurt his hand,” he said.

The match featured Lashley representing Trump against Umaga, who represented McMahon. Stone Cold Steve Austin served as the special guest referee, adding to the match’s high-profile nature.

Lashley, who departed WWE in August 2024 before signing with AEW, admitted he was unaware of Trump’s planned physical involvement until it occurred during the match.
